There are many reasons why people come to therapy and the range of challenges we can all face is wide-ranging. In some cases, clients will attend and suggest they need support for a specific mental health condition. Other times, clients will report some symptoms, but they might have a tricky time making sense of them. Both of these experiences are completely normal.

We have listed some mental health conditions and symptoms below, take a look to see if any of these fit with your experience. If you are experiencing something that you don’t see listed below, please don’t worry, these are only some of the tricky challenges that we commonly see in therapy.

Some of the challenges you may be facing that we can support you with:

  • Depression & Low Mood
  • Anxiety & Panic
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Social Anxiety
  • Burnout and Overwhelm
  • Stress (Personal and Professional)
  • Intrusive Thoughts
  • Trauma & PTSD
  • Loss & Bereavement
  • Sleep Disruption (Too much or too little)
  • Phobias / Fears (E.g. Fear of flying or spiders)
  • Anger Management
  • Low Self Esteem & Low Confidence
  • Relationships Difficulties

What if you can't quite put your finger on what the problem is?

Some people have an idea of why you are having a tricky time. However, many people come to therapy and are not quite sure why they are feeling the way they do. They can notice the uncomfortable thoughts, feelings and sensations in their body but find it challenging to make sense of it.

Some thoughts that you might be finding unhelpful are:

  • That you are “a failure”, “not good enough”, “that you have let yourself and our family down” (or some variation of these thoughts).
  • Dreading the future.
  • Thinking that you can’t cope and that this is too much.
  • Thinking of death, suicide or hurting yourself in some way.

  • Thinking nobody cares about you.
  • Thinking that you have to keep everyone happy.
  • Thinking you don’t deserve to be where you are or that you will be found to be a fraud.

  • A tight chest.
  • Exhaustion and fatigue.
  • A sense that you can’t get a full breath.
  • No motivation.
  • Feeling stuck.
